3 Reasons Why Moms Should Go Back To School
Education is never a waste of time or money- it’s always worth expanding your mind and learning about new things if you have the opportunity to do so. If you’re toying with the idea of getting back into education this year, here are a few reasons why you should go for it.
Just for fun
Learning new things keeps your brain sharp, teaches you new skills and can enable you to meet and mix with like-minded people. Taking on a course doesn’t necessarily need to be for any reason, other than because it’s fun- or you want to! It’s a productive way to spend your free time, and you can keep an open mind to where it could lead. Study doesn’t even need to be a typically academic subject. You could take art classes, or learn floristry. You could go to cooking or baking classes, or do a beauty course online. If you have a subject that interests you and have always wanted to learn more, why not just go for it? You could study online or attend classes in person at a local college or community center, depending on your time and/ or child care restraints. Maybe your children have started school and you’ve found yourself with a little extra time, or you have family who are willing to look after them for a couple of hours a week. Dedicate this time to something you enjoy and work on your self development!
You want to set a good example
Children learn by example, and one of the best things we can do is to show our children the right path through our actions. When you return to education, you show them that it’s important to keep on learning all throughout your life. It helps to bring home the importance of learning, which are values they will hopefully mimic. When you study yourself, it’s a good reminder of just how difficult learning is and you can empathize better with your children’s school life. If your children are a little older, you could even set up study sessions and help each other with revision and exam prep.
You want to change or boost your career
Finally, this is of course one of the reasons why many people choose to return to education. If you want to change career, you might need a degree (if you don’t already have one), otherwise you might need a degree in a specialist related subject or a masters. In some cases you’ll need to take on further education, for example after graduating in law you might need to look into paralegal schools before applying for the job that you want. In some cases, you might have reached a dead end with your career and are looking to move to the next step. Further education can allow you to do this, opening up more opportunities to advance and better paid positions.
