Embrace the Process of Success

The process of success takes time and it requires you to be diligent, patient, committed, tenacious and equipped with a winning mindset. There will be days when you feel like throwing in the towel, when you’ve given all you’ve got and you STILL don’t see the finish line. Or better yet, you thought you were finished, only to discover that you have to start all over again because the technique you were using wasn’t right for that particular task. Not fun – I know. But this is when you have to remember that achieving success is a marathon, not a sprint and you have to embrace the process of success.

Imagine if the farmers that produce our fruits and vegetables thought this way. What would happen if they decided to quit every time they planted a seed and it didn’t sprout up and produce fruits and vegetables when they wanted them to? Our agricultural system would be in trouble and we wouldn’t have any fresh fruits and vegetables.

Skilled, experienced farmers are smarter than that; they understand and embrace the process involved and the specific steps that must be taken. They know there is a season for planting, a season for harvesting and that each season must run its course.

First the soil must be cultivated properly and prepared for planting. The dirt must be plowed and fertilized, making it nutrient-rich and ready to incubate the seeds. When the seeds are planted they must be watered and nurtured. Planted seeds need the proper amount of sun and nutrients to grow and produce a ripe, delicious harvest.

Now think about your business. What season are you in right now? Think about how you can embrace your season and make the most out of it.

If you’re in the preparation for planting season, then you have to think and act accordingly. This is the season before you start your business and it may look something like this:

  • conducting research for business ideas
  • brainstorming for new product creation
  • organizing a focus group with ideal clients
  • taking a business course to learn how to get started
  • developing your brand concept
  • designing your blog or website.

If you’ve just planted your seeds, now it’s time to nourish them. For a new entrepreneur, this is the season when you need to be supported, guided and encouraged. Your mindset has to be right for you to nurture your new business and to not get discouraged when you don’t see it sprouting up as quickly as you thought it would. In this season it is essential that you hire a business coach or consultant who can keep you on track and hold you accountable to do what you said you’re going to do.

In the harvesting season, you are ready to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You have gone through the planting, cultivating and waiting process. Now you are ready to celebrate your success. However, just as with the seasons of farming, you must be prepared for the cycle to repeat itself. This season will end. Then you will be back to prepping your soil, or going back to your goals for the following year and assessing what you need to do in order to harvest the fruits you want for the following season.

No matter where you are in the process of success, you must embrace this season. Do what you need to do to make it the most productive time in your business and be prepared for the season that’s ahead of you.
